Concrete Overlay over Tile in the San Fernando Valley!
Every job presents a new challenge and this one was no different! After driving down a half mile of dirt and gravel, we came upon a 100 year old farmhouse in West Hills of the San Fernando Valley in California. This house in the middle of 100 acres of canyon rock is home to the Dog Trainer of the Stars! The Boarders have very famous owners as you can imagine! The Trainer and her husband wanted a simple, Monolithic Concrete Overlay that was easy to clean, and strong enough to handle the Tenants! The existing floor was some butt ugly tile that was laid down during the last remodel, I’m guessing 1985. However ugly, it was solid, and not going anywhere. One other thing I almost forgot to mention was, the previous owner was an old lady with 50 cats! Needless to say, the smell was deeply engrained in the very wide and deep Grout! For this, we brought in the Big 17″ Floor Polisher with a Green Scrubbing Pad using Simple Green and Water, after drying we applied Weld-Crete’s Concrete Primer. This stuff is Bullet Proof! We then Troweled on 3 Coats of ICoat’s Polymer fortified Micro poly Concrete Tinted with ICoat’s Mortar Grey Dispersion. After completely drying, we Stained it with more Mortar Grey to make it Darker and Smoke, to lighten some areas resulting in a Worn out Natural looking Concrete Floor. After a Sealer Coat, we then Topped it off with a 2 Part Epoxy for extra durability for our fine furry friends! Everyone is happy and the smell? Much better!
